Graduation and the dreaded NCLEX

I am officially a graduate nurse. I know... I'm scared too! Graduation night was great- I'm blessed with family and friends that came to support me. And so blessed by gifts- wow! My in-laws gave me the cardiac stethoscope I have been eyeing ever since I tried my preceptor's. It's like night and day difference on static. I am so thankful for that. And then my sweet girlfriends that I met through Anna's school and doing gymnastics with their kiddos gave me a gift certificate to a uniform store in town! So nice to feel so loved!
I am not big on ceremonies like graduation typically. Normally, I would make up whatever lie was needed to get out of it. After all, it involves being the center of attention. Ugh. However, esp after this summer, this whole accomplishment all the sudden meant a lot more to me. So, off to graduation I went. And it was fun to see all my classmates be so excited about their accomplishments and the fact that they are done! And because its me.... I did something dumb right before graduation started. The first graduation gown I got was like a freaking tent. Not sure what I was thinking when I ordered that size seeing as how I tried it on and everything. So... they had a smaller one there and everyone said it looked way better so I went with that one. That, in hindsight... was a mistake. Or maybe the mistake was yanking on said gown because it was pissing me off by being ...shall we say "not loose" and ripping almost the entire side of the gown right down the seam. Yep... you read that right. Geez. One of my good friends was all like "oh my gosh I can't believe that happened to you!!" and I was said "Cooper, come on- it's me. You can totally believe this happened to me!" Several lessons were learned by that incident.... so I spent the entire graduation night with a death grip on the side of my gown so you couldn't see the rip!!! ha! At least that side was not facing the audience during the handing of the diploma. Then, because I can't let that be the only thing, I also set the ridiculous fake candle (that we were supposed to hold during the song "Light your world" ...seriously- who comes up with these ideas?) down a little too far under my seat and then I couldn't find it when it was time to turn it on and hold it. Wow. I'm surprised I managed to get through nursing school since I can barely get through one small graduation ceremony. One of my nice classmates who I don't even know that well gave me his to hold. I know, right? Wasn't that nice?
And then, just to top it off, I dropped my New Testament that they for some reason think is a good idea to give you while you're up on stage in addition to the two programs, diploma tube, envelope with recognition stuff, and candle.  I'm surprised they didn't just stop me at the door and take it all away.
So, graduation is done. Which means I can no longer procrastinate and say "after graduation". Crap. That means I actually have to get to work. Well, get to work and also get to work studying for nclex. The fear of nclex hasn't really set in yet. I'm not sure why. That would really really suck to fail. I did get all my folders out tonight and get my desk all set up to start studying on Monday. Tomorrow and tonight is set aside for organizing our messes and developing a study plan. I'll probably take it sometime in late January. They recommend 3-4 hours of studying a day for a month. I guess that means I'll get back into my hole for a little while longer.
I start work on the 27th. I am so scared! And then after work and nclex, I start BSN classes in late January. No rest for the wicked!
